Once thing all electric skateboards need is an Electric Speed Controller (ESC) this is the brains behind spinning the motor. In the land of electric skateboards you will hear the term VESC. This is because several years back someone by the name of Ben Vedder open sourced his designs for a skateboard specific ESC. These all go by the acronym VESC.
